Micro Finance Centre Verifies Emyooga Groups in Mityana District for additional funds.

MITYANA, The Micro Finance Centre, in collaboration with the Mityana District Local Government, has embarked on a verification exercise for Emyooga groups in Mityana district.
The exercise, which kicked on Monday at the district headquarters, aims at validating the existence and operations of Emyooga groups in the district, which are savings and credit cooperatives formed under the Emyooga program a government initiative aimed at promoting economic empowerment and poverty reduction.
Derrick Matsiko, the focal person Emyooga greater Mpigi and Mityana, the verification exercise is crucial in ensuring that Emyooga groups are functioning effectively and efficiently, and that they are aligned with the program's objectives. Matsiko added that they were given a list of all members who got money since 2022- 2025 and they have come with the technology to check all the lists and they verify to see who got the money and those who have failed to refund the money yet they were given the money.
"We want to ensure that the Emyooga groups are properly registered, have a clear governance structure, and are maintaining accurate records," said Matsiko.
Matsiko added that the verification exercise will help them in identifying areas of strength and weakness, and provide targeted support to groups that need it. He added that Mityana Municipality has 18 Sacco’s but out of those 18 Sacco’s 12 Sacco have got additional 20 million and now they have 50 million in their Sacco’s and only the local leaders sacco so far has got 70 million because of the good performance and the 5 more Sacco’s have asked to get the additional 20 million.
He added that a sacco to qualify to get more additional money has to be with all documents so that they can put them on the system to get more money.
“If you qualify to get additional money we shall send a team to come and monitor the sacco and verify well if all the required documents are available them we give you the additional money”. Said Matsiko.
Prossy Mbabazi, the Grants Secretariat Officer Micro Finance Officer said that they are in Mityana because Sacco’s in Mityana North and Mityana South they have not got any additional money and they want to know why they have not got the money and if they have so0me challenges they need to know them so that they can help them to see that they get additional funds.
“Am hear to listen to you why you have failed to get more additional funds yet other Sacco’s in the district have got additional funds”. Said Prossy.
Mbabazi said that they want to see whether Sacco’s have requirements to give them additional funds and those with all the requirements they are going to upload them on the system and those without the requirements they will go and get the required documents and they work on them.
She said among the documents they want include registration certificates, meeting minutes, and financial records.
Mbabazi went on to conduct interviews with group members and leaders to assess why they are failing to refund back the money and even making their accounts domant when they are not depositing money.
Nelson Jemba chairperson bodaboda mityana North when asked why they are not refunding back the money he said that some of the members who were given the money went a broad and they have failed to tress them.
He added that they have some members who have used well the mooney and they have made good business and they need to add them more money to increase on their capital.
Joy Nakakande secretary PWD Mityana South when asked she said that they have been disappointed by their chairperson who took 9 million and he told members that the money was for eatin g not refuning bak and when they call him to come and balance the books he doesn’t want to come.
Loy added that what they resolved is not to take back money on the account but to give it out to members and the register in the books for those who have taken the money and she asked for help to see how they can remove the chairperson on the signatory account and also to see how he can refund the money so that members can benefit from it.
Hasfa Nalumaga chairperson veteran sacco Mityana North said that they got the money and they gave it out to members to start business some when in for poultry and others when in for brick manufacturing but those in poultry their hens died and failed to return the money and they are now planning to see how they can convince them to refund the money.

Ivan Kikakye, Acting District Commercial Officer welcomed the verification exercise, saying it will help to strengthen the Emyooga groups and improve their overall performance.
"We are committed to supporting the Emyooga groups in our district, and this verification exercise is an important step in ensuring that they are functioning effectively," said Kisakye.
He advised all Sacco leaders to go back and sensitize members to continue saving because they want to see the accounts when they are active than being domant without depositing money on them.
Joseph Ssemakula, The Principal Commercial officer Mityana Municipality said that if Sacco’s want to be given additional funds they have to make sure that they save money and give out loans and also have to be benchmarking to see other Sacco’s the way they are performing and they take the good things to their Sacco’s.
