Raising the village an international non- profit organization dedicated to ending ultra poverty in last mile communities across Sub-Sahara African has kick started its work with the launch in Mityana district mainly in Mpongo parish in Bbanda Sub County and is classified as Mpongo Cluster on Monday 08/06/2026 and the launch was at seeta seed secondary school in Bbanda sub county.

According to Naboth Mugisha the project Manager Raising the Village said that they have come to strengthen livelihood and increase income in a way that is suitable and community led. He added that they are going to operate in 10 viilages which make up bbanda sub county and they are expecting to help 911 households.

Mr Mugisha said that they want to create an environment where development efforts can be sustained by communities themselves after partnership ends.

He said that in this program they have three phases of approach and each phase builds on the before drive lasting change.

Mr Mugisha said that the first phase is of securing the core resources and removing barriers where they are going to support households in securing the necessary resources to remove barriers to participation. He says that this phase creates time and space for households especially women to engage in development activities by addressing their most pressing needs and barriers.

In this phase Mugisha said that they are going to focus on hygiene and Sanitation and food security. In this phase they are going to send health assistants in the communities where they are going to operate and teach them how to maintain the hygiene and how they can keep food so that it can last for long time.

Another phase is about income generation and resilience where they are going to improve outcomes by supporting households to develop income generating activities and in this phase, they are going to give out money to the communities, and they start saving so that they can reduce the risk of migration or food security.

In this phase they are going to help in agricultural optimization where they are going to help the communities with agricultural inputs farming tools and training on good agricultural practices to increase their yields.

Also, they are going to do livestock and farm management where they will conduct livestock management and care training and hear they will use the extension workers to train the communities to have good yields.

He added that thy era also going to give financial inclusion where they are going to give out or to establish village savings and loans associations where households can access peer-reviewed loans and providing trainings on financial literacy.

The third phase Mr Mugisha said that they are going to focus on sustaining out comes and Local capacity building where they will be having the system, knowledge and leadership to continue progressing independently and in this phase, they expect leaders’ development where leadership skills will be given to the leaders and establishing community.

Mugisha said that they are going to make sure that they put a linkage to access to the markets where the communities will be taking their product for sell. And giving continuous support and making follow up on what they are doing.

Mityana district deputy Chief Administrative Officer Jack Byaruhanga said that as the district they have put a platform where they work with Raising the village and they came in the district and signed a memorandum of understanding with them to work in the district.

He said that raising the villages is going to work in the whole district though they have started with four parishes and Mpongo has benefited a lot. He added that the key things they are focusing on are health, Agriculture, water and money inclusion which he said that they are going to help the community to develop.

Mityana district Vice Chairperson Hon Sarah Ssentamu thanked the organisation for coming in the district and she said that as the district is working hard to see that they recruit teachers to start teaching in the seed school and urged all parents to bring their children in the school so that they can develop the community.

The Resident district commissioner represented by the sub county chairperson Lawrence Mwenje welcomed raising the villages and thanked them for choosing bbanda sub county.

He went further to say that the main aim of the organisation is to change the mindset of the people so that they can do the exact things that develop the community.
